Work at the Census Bureau
I work in respondent research, meaning I test survey items for business surveys to improve them. I really value working in a collaborative environment, having an impact on survey design, and representing respondents. My work is mixed methods, but I focus mostly on qualitative data collection. I’ve worked on the following surveys:
Annual Integrated Economic Survey: AIES represents the integration of seven annual business surveys into one holistic survey.
Business Trends and Outlook Survey: BTOS was created after the Business Pulse Survey, a short business survey where companies answer for the past two weeks on economic trends.
Annual Business Survey: ABS collects data on economic and demographic trends of businesses and owners each year.
Juvenile Residential Facility Census/Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement: JRFC/CJRP collects data on youth in residential placement.
American Community Survey: The ACS is an annual household collection on the American population, housing, and workforce
I have some of the following responsibilities:
Coordination of an experiment to improve the internet instrument of the ACS, including supporting mobile response.
Design of protocols to collect data testing survey items.
Literature review of specific topics, like nonresponse or sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) measures.
Recruitment of participants.
Data collection including cognitive interviewing, debriefing interviews, and usability testing.
Unmoderated data collection.
Analysis, synthesis, and presentation of findings and recommendations.
Serving on the National Science and Technology Council Subcommittee on Equitable Data: Disability Data Interagency Working Group, specifically in the Community Engagement Stream. Led Subject Matter Expert interviews.
Participation on the Historically Undercounted Populations (HUP) group, including finding the subcommittees on SOGI measures and economic HUPs.
Served as project manager and supervisor.
